I found out today why unemployment never called me.
Apparently, we had a block on our phone that prevented blocked numbers from reaching us. Why the unemployment office has their phone number blocked is beyond me. Despite all of this, my new appointment is now tomorrow (or rather, today) at 8am.
agh.
Earlier this evening, I took the ratties out to play in the bathroom. Aleister has grown skittish of leaving her cage under her own motivation and it took quite a bit of me sitting perfectly still and talking softly to her to get her to come out. After that, she seemed okay. I cleaned her rather dirty tail and played with her a bit, even held her some. Gloves on, as I'm still a little leery from the time she bit whilst having babies.
Speck, on the other hand, leapt from her cage. The babies, which normally crowd their way in the doorway of the cage, wouldn't come out. I made a sudden, accidential noise and everyone spazzed. Speck jumped behind the cage, glaring at me, and all the babies froze in place. Absolutely quiet, absolutely still. It was a rather remarkable sight and it took quite some time to calm them all down. I didn't manage to get all of them to come out, though. A group of them clustered on the upper level of their cage, refusing to budge. Speck's tail, being even more filthy than Aleister's, was also cleaned.
I've noticed as well how skinny she has gotten. I imagine that the burden of all those babies is getting to her and I'm going to have to pay extra attention to what and how much she eats for a while. Tomorrow, I'll attempt to sort babies into sex-segregated cages and with them no longer nursing after that perhaps she'll get back into shape.
Not much else, other than that. I've been spending a lot of quiet time with myself this evening. Mostly thinking about religion. I decided to join a few different vodoun e-lists, but there's so much in-fighting and posturing on all of them that I'm not sure if I want to de-lurk in any.
