what about the farewell drugs?

Lots of people have addictions. Alcohol, drugs, sex, shopping, World of Warcraft.

I read a lot, I read fast, and if I don't have anything to read, I get irritable and snappish.

My habit used to be fed on a normal basis. I worked for Tower Books and received a fat employee discount. Additionally, we were also allowed to take books out on loan (three at a time) and I had an employee account that was a form of credit. The jones uneasily slept with a steady fix.

But, since I've moved home and no longer work at a bookstore, I'm forced to actually pay for my books. Full price, even! Buying my own books has been difficult (finding home for all of them is even more trying, in my tiny apartment), but I have been getting by. God bless Amazon's "new and used" sellers, is all I have to say.

At any rate, I had an idea the other night as I was driving home from work. A catalog of all the books I read in 2007, to see what I've read and how many times I've read it.

This starts at December 2006, simply because I'm reading several books right now that I will still be reading when the year turns over in a handful of days. December will be mostly incomplete because I can't remember every book I read that month.

I'm the same way. That is precisely why I'm so happy to have a used bookstore just six blocks from where I live.

I was just thinking I should do the same for this coming year. Right now I'm in the middle of Heat by Bill Bruford and Mistral's Kiss by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Library card?

And have you checked out Librarything.com?

Librarything.com is the best Thing EVER.

I've got a library card and even live down the block from an actual library. But, they very rarely have anything I want and I'm far too instant gratification driven to ask them to order anything fo rme.

I've not checked out that website, though. And will do so right now!

On eBay you can score huge lots of books very cheap, from people unloading their collections.

Two words: book exchange.

Or (and this would make my husband infinitely more happy) I can ship you books once I'm done with them (no charge, just pay the shipping). Really. Because the whole using a stack of books on either end of the couch as a table thing is getting old. Not to mention the whole 8 towers of books stacked waist high in the middle of my living room thing. And the stacks upon stacks of books taking up all of my dining room table. And on top of the entertainment center. And on top of the hutch on the desk. And... well, let's just say that a good 60-70% of my "clutter" is books that can't be fit on any one of the 4 existing bookshelves we own.

What, exactly, do you read, anyway?

I read all manner of things. Mostly horror. Some historical fiction (and non-fiction!).

What have you got?
