So, I'm lying on the Engineer's couch with the best pillow in the world. We're watching the anime movie, Metropolis. The lights are out. The Engineer's new girly candle is burning on the coffee table. I am ignoring the clamour in my head revolving around current events and the war.

All of a sudden, the power goes out. We look at each other and I sit up. There's voices out in the hall, giggling nervously. The building's smoke alarm starts clanging and banging, as it tends to do at the drop of a hat, so I open the door to see what's going on. Flashlights bounce along the walls and a sick feeling begins to develop in my stomach.

What's going on?

Oh, the power's gone out on the whole block. No one knows why.

WTF?!

We go back downstairs to my apartment to see how my mom is doing. She's busy digging for candles, but I decide using my glass novenas would work better. They don't drip all over the place.

The long and the short of it is that a few transformers went down in our area and it wiped out our block. I spent some time out front, with a few of the other apartment people, laughing nervously.

And the entire time, running through my head, is one line from a song. Over and over again.

this is it, boys. this is war.

*hug.* i know. i resent thinking first that it's war-related rather than just a normal occurence. like your power going out, or my radio-transmitting speakers. word to your mother, girl.
