So, it's my second round of wrapping presents and I'm listening to the mopey-est music I have on file. Why my second round, you ask?

Because a guardian angel took me out this evening and bought presents for me to give to my mother for Christmas, as all I could afford was a single CD for her.

See, this guardian angel and I were sitting in her living room the other week. We weren't doing much, just smoking a little bit of the ragweed my brother gifted me with and watching seemingly endless episodes of Law and Order. The conversation turns to the upcoming holidays, what we're planning on giving our respected loved ones. And that's where I got a little bit unhappy because I don't have much money right now and I'm only able to get my mom one thing for the holiday, when normally I buy her a boatload of stuff.

My guardian angel says this, she says: "I had an idea the other day about taking you out shopping and buying you stuff to give to your mom because I know what it means to you and I want your mom to have a good Christmas. Are you cool with that? You can just put your name on them and tell her that you've been saving money for it."

I'm struck utterly speechless for a few moments. Completely struck dumb at the idea that someone would give this much of a damn, GIVES this much of a damn, about all of this.

After that few seconds of dumbstruck quiet, I answer yes. And thank her profusely.

This is why my friends rock the fucking house.

I'd write more, but I'm getting a little teary thinking about this and I've still got a heap of knitting to get done before I go to bed.

Sometimes it's wise to lay down your gloves
and just give in.

It did the bidness on me, as well. It wasn't a whole hell of a lot of stuff, but it was a few things we knew she'd appreciate. Like a cardigan to wear when she starts chemo again next week and a new blanket to wrap up in while lying on the couch. And some other, small stuff. Stocking stuffer things and the like.

Probably some time after the holidays. I'm up in the Northeast right now and money's tight as hell. Well, tight meaning non-existant.

Dig. But, you could also just come down for a movie night at the apartment. Even when money's not tight, we try to keep things low key and not spendy round these here parts. I know there's gas and tolls and all, but the offer stands.

We did up a new calendar for the group btw, with some presentations scheduled that you might be interested in. I'll get the boy to send you a copy of what's coming up.
