I watched Big Fish yesterday, with the Engineer, and I probably shouldn't have.

It's an incredibly emotional movie and it saddens me that friends of mine didn't like it, because I found it to be extraordinary. However, given my recent family situation, I still probably shouldn't have watched it. Not just yet.

Like a stupid little girl, I cried off and on throughout the entire movie. It was just such an automatic reaction, a complete gut punch, that the first time it happened, I was astonished to find tears running hot on my cheeks.

I loved everything about it, especially the fact that it showcased how much Tim Burton's directing style has morphed and matured over the years. I also liked the fact that it has George the Giant in it (he played the giant at the circus who got shown up by the really big giant), who I met last year at the Sideshow convention in Wilkes Barre.

----

Today held a scare for me when I discovered that one of my rats, Major Tom, was choking on something. Badly. I flipped my shit and did everything I've ever read about to help a choking rat. My poor squishy boy, his nose and tongue and ears were turning blue in front of me. Everything turned out okay in the end, but I was truly terrified for those few minutes.

---

Six Feet Under season premiere, that I'm staying up late to watch, is coming on now.
I'm out.

I liked Big Fish. I think people didn't like it because they were expecting spooky tim burton and not the artist tim burton.

I cried too. But that is because I am a big ass sap.

Saw it in the theater and HATED it, and NOT because I thought it was going to be scarey, spooky Tim Burton. I thought it was a self-indulgent piece of drivel that Tim did while working through the emotions of his own father's death, which is fine, but I just thoroughly disliked the film and found the actor playing his adult son to be annoying within the first five minutes. Of course the wonderful Albert Finney was one of the few (very few) highlights. If you liked it great, but many of my friends felt it was pretty bad. There seems to be a lack of decent films out this season (spring/summer) unfortunately, I haven't seen anything that I liked yet.

What was Major choking on??? Poor guy...

Yes, I know your feelings on this, although you've never gone much more past "I thought it was stupid." (That's not an invitation to elaborate, btw. I'll argue every point you make and I'm not in the mood for that right now.)

My and your tastes are vastly different. Case in point, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. You absolutely adore it, while I think it's a big three-movie piece of shit. *shrug*

I loved Big Fish as well -I bawled like a cheerleader who didn't make the squad.....and my friend who I went with is good friends with George the Giant -she was so thrilled he was in this movie!!! I tell you -the bathtub scene really got me....I find it hard to believe that people didn't like this film since I think its one of Burton's best -but I suppose everyone's tastes are different. Been thinking about you lately hon and hoping that you're doing okay. xoxoxoxoxo

I wouldn't elaborate, we can agree to disagree, but we do have different taste in things and that's ok. I don't think I ever said that I thought the movie was "stupid" as that's not really a word that I use to describe much, and I would most definintely at least have said what I did in the post. And on clarification, I adore Tolkein and admire the effort that went into the LOTR trilogy, just to set the record straight.

That was me paraphrasing at stupid o'clock in the morning without any caffine in my system. heh.

You didn't need to clarify WHY you liked it, I never questioned that. I just said you adored it.

(I really detest Tolkien to begin with and that's partly why I don't like the films, it's not all Legolas-hating going on with me.) :P

Big Fish was very nice, though there were some weepy eyes when I went to see it. I just thought I'd drop in and leave a comment. And on the subject of movies I just picked up that Snow White movie we watched at the hotel back in New Orleans way back on DVD. Gonna watch it later.
