My Boyfriend Is A Patient Man- Take 47
Apr. 9th, 2008 03:38 pmOne of the things I excel at is getting on my boyfriend's nerves. It's like a skill I have perfected over the years or something, much like bow-hunting or ninja throwing-stars. And one of the things which makes him the MOST crazy is how I listen to my iPod.
See, I almost never just pick an album and listen straight through it. It's too constrictive for me. I put the whole damn thing on shuffle, all 3000 or some songs, and go to town. This means I frequently hit songs I have no desire to listen to at that moment.
My moods are capricious, at best. Same goes for what I am in the mood for, doubly so for music. And while there isn't anything on my iPod I'm not a fan of, it does not mean I'm in the mood to listen to it at any given point. So, it gets skipped.
And because my moods are so flighty, lots of songs get skipped. I've been known to skip fifty in a row. Currently, I'm at #307 and I re-started yesterday.
This makes the Engineer insane. He doesn't understand why I don't sort my music by a given categorey (like genre, which he's all about like it's his prom date or something) or just by artist. I don't like sorting by genre because I can't say to myself, "Self? I am in the mood to listen to some Jungle." Which, of course, it wouldn't actually auto-give me the option to have Jungle because iTunes can't pick genres for specific artists if a gun was held to its grandmother's vagina. iTunes is purely incapable of correctly assigning genres to any artist.
Regardless of how shitty iTunes is in bed, I still can't pick music by genre. Again, capricious moods. I can go from listening to trance to listening to Gwar in the span of five seconds. Ask anyone who has ever received a mixed tape/cd from me before. They'll witness.
So, I skip and skip and skip. My boyfriend gets more and more irritated with me (much in the same way he will when he reads this- hee).
He is a very patient man; I recognize I am a difficult girlfriend to deal with.

That being said, I ask of you- my FL: should you have a iPod, how do you listen to it?
