Any lingering doubt that I could handle mortuary science/funeral service has now been erased.

I just sat and read through this webpage (warning- lots of really gross images, I'm not kidding), while eating a messy cheeseburger, and didn't even fucking blink. No queasiness, no 'omg, eww!' episodes. Nothing. All I felt was sympathy for the poor ratty and a burning curiousity for the inner workings of mammals.

Over the years, I've handled a wide variety of corpses before, ranging from pets to roadkill to family members to fetal remains. It doesn't phase me, other than feelings of sorrow and those are moreso intertwined with the personal attachment to what used to inhabit the bodies and my personal relationship to them, rather than any sort of 'omg, death!' ickiness.

I can so do this.

Now, if only I would stop getting heart-stopping letters of "YOU ARE TOTALLY NOT GETTING THIS GRANT/SCHOLARSHIP!" that masquerade as FAFSA notifications. I've gotten two so far. One of which was from the college and stated that while I showed considerable need for financial aid, I didn't qualify for it at this time (most likely some sort of county-specific thing that they run everyone through) and the other was from HESAA (telling me my eligibilty index was too high to receive aid, the Engineer got one of these also). Neither of them are the big, important notifications. So, I'm going to attempt to quit freaking out about them.

Pay special attention to my use of the word 'attempt', mind you.

That was such a neat little website - thanks for the link. I'm the same way about not being grossed out in the least by the body and its insides... totally fascinated more like. I started school last week, and am LOVING my anatomy studies. When you get started, we can talk bodies anytime you like :)

i was actually talking to a client/mortician about you yesterday. he was really cool.
i was telling him i have a friend who is a goth girl with lots of tattoos who is going to go to mortician school and he gave me the rundown of the process. one he told me as long as you dont have hand or face tattoos your gold because allot of the guys he knows are heavilly inked under there nice nice cloths. and if you dont want to deal with people,,if your good .......it holds more weight than anything else and that morticians are judged heavilly on there work, not on who you know. he was also telling me that there was trons and tons of grants out there for his line of work. you may want to hire a grant wrighter . it will cost you about 400 bucks but they will find you all the free money you need.
he was going off about the good that he does for the living more so than the dead, how much making peoples loved ones look god and making funerals a solid ocasion was really good for the living,,and stressed the importance of. i gained a new respect for the buisness, and no longer see it as spooky and goulish.
carl is coming in next week or so to look and some custom shit. he said if you werr interested he would give me his phone number if you had any questions. yea,,,i was like thinkin about you and shit

as a girl who starts gagging when anyone mentions anything remotely gross around me, i find it prety easy to pry open dead animals and poke at their insides. the only class for my major thus far that gave me any problems was microbiology. the smell in my labs was unbearable.
i hear you on the grant issuse... i'm stressed every day. i have half of my tuition for the next year awarded, but that still leaves me short $17,000 plus money for books and other expensses. good luck! if i find any awesomely free money i'll let you know.

I can help hunt down sources for grant writing. I've also got a text book called "Proposals that Work" and it covers grants, I think.

I totally NEVER got the email notification of this comment! WTF?

At any rate, thank you for thinking of me. I'm sure it's far too late to get his phone number now, since I only found this comment today, but thank you for thinking of my future career as a corpse-toucher. :D

I'm currently reading this book written by a funeral director. It's called "The Undertaking : Life Studies from the Dismal Trade" and it's incredible.

As I just said to Mr. Fred, I never got these comment email notifications, so I'm very late in replying to you.

What are you majoring in? I'll have to be taking microbiology at some point as well; I can't wait!

I love bearded dragons. My boyfriend desperately wants to get one, but he knows he doesn't have the space for it right now.
