The best monster movies are usually the ones where they don't actually name the monster in any fashion.

The film, Near Dark, probably one of the absolute best vampire movies ever made, never once uses the word, "vampire". None of the Romero zombie movies use the word, "zombie" (except for Land of the Dead and letmetellyou how much that scene jumps straight up my ass). Etc. Etc. You get my point.

It has been so deeply embedded in my brain that THIS IS THE WAY THINGS SHOULD BE (tm) that now, when I watch a film that names the monster, I get pissed off (the only movie that does this that doesn't count is Shaun of the Dead and that's because of the way it's done) and instantly hate the experience.

The Engineer and I found Night of the Living Dead 3D this weekend, which has Sid Haig in it. I have massive love for Mr. Haig, so we bought it.

Verdict?

Ugh.

I have no other words. Poor Sid must have had to pay his electric bill or something. It wasn't even cheesy good, just wretched.

I also bought Black Sheep, in the same purchase. whee!

And why am I now curious, considering you just said it sucked donkey balls? I'll add this to Netflix, and it will come in like 2 months because it's at the bottom, and Matt will say, "why the hell did you add this?" I'll say, "I don't know! Someone must have recommended it!" after forgetting you said it was actually horrible on every level.

By the way, did you get my e-mail on Sat? Just making sure. Thanks again. Never has anyone telling me to "just go to bed" been better advice.

I agree. As soon as someone says "It's some kind of zombie!" I just tune out.

Speaking of scary movies, I was just watching Shadow of the Vampire on the weekend, and was struck once again by how brilliant and weird it is.

It was actually in 3D, and even came with a couple pairs of glasses. I didn't watch the movie like that, though. 3D glasses always give me a headache.

And I did get your email, I'm sorry I haven't been able to respond to you until now. School has been kicking my ass this week (I've got some tests going on) and I've not been much good for anything else.

I'm glad you went to bed, though. Sometimes, that's just the best thing to do.

After watching it the other night, I wholeheartedly recommend it. Watch the trailer posted above. Then watch the film. It is made of awesome. :D
