I write like
H. P. Lovecraft

I didn't think I used words like gibbous and cyclopean enough to be old Howard Phillip, but so it goes.

This is an otherwise content-free post, by the way. A brutal combination of depression and anxiety has not allowed me to think much outside of i am going to hide under my bed for the next seven years.

well lovecraft bothers me...
well ok not really, but there is a great comic, Planetary by Warren Ellis and in one issue the main character talks to Lovecraft and he is hold up in an attic writing and freakng out about "negro" eggs from another dimension and he refuses to let there be a black America. Its funny and just odd enough to make me giggle with geek glee.

Lovecraft was a terrible xenophobe and racist, that much can not be disputed (at least in my opinion).

There's an article on the topic that has some interesting points.

For the most part, I agree with Joshi's standpoint of: I find Lovecraft's racism disappointing not merely because he expressed it so frequently in fiction and letters, but because this was one area where he refused to modify his thinking in light of new evidence. In every other aspect of his thought--metaphysics, politics, economics, aesthetics--he was constantly amending his views as new information came to him; but with his racism, he stuck pretty much to the prejudices he had absorbed in the reactionary New England of the 1890s.

I still enjoy the bulk of his writing, but every time something racist pops up in it, it's like a screeching car crash. So disappointing.

I had no idea until I read that comic then a buddy was like "yeah go read some of his stuff and you can see it" I just thought it was craziness for the comic.

I was shocked but it is still a good look into his head.

I think lovecraft is the standard for some reason. I got the same result.
