In all liklihood, she was paid more than you and the other girl, and that is why they axed her. That happens a lot.

Last year my step-dad went through the same thing. High score for cancer and all that. Turned out he had some sort of cancer in his thyroid gland.
Anyways, long story short, he was in and out of the hospital, and a yera later he's perfectly fine.
Finding out you have cancer is very scary, but there's a lot that can be done, and the treatments available for thyroid cancer are excellent and effective. I'm sure your mother will be fine. :)
