An essay on the dangers of homosexual marriage, by Orson Scott Card.
In the first place, no law in any state in the United States now or ever has forbidden homosexuals to marry. The law has never asked that a man prove his heterosexuality in order to marry a woman, or a woman hers in order to marry a man.
Any homosexual man who can persuade a woman to take him as her husband can avail himself of all the rights of husbandhood under the law. And, in fact, many homosexual men have done precisely that, without any legal prejudice at all.
Ditto with lesbian women. Many have married men and borne children. And while a fair number of such marriages in recent years have ended in divorce, there are many that have not.
So it is a flat lie to say that homosexuals are deprived of any civil right pertaining to marriage. To get those civil rights, all homosexuals have to do is find someone of the opposite sex willing to join them in marriage.
We've already seen similar attempts at redefinition. The ideologues have demanded that we stop defining "families" as Dad, Mom, and the kids. Now any grouping of people might be called a "family."
But this doesn't turn them into families, or even make rational people believe they're families. It just makes it politically unacceptable to use the word family in any meaningful way.
Calling a homosexual contract "marriage" does not make it reproductively relevant and will not make it contribute in any meaningful way to the propagation of civilization.
In fact, it will do harm. Nowhere near as much harm as we have already done through divorce and out-of-wedlock childbearing. But it's another nail in the coffin. Maybe the last nail, precisely because it is the most obvious and outrageous attack on what is left of marriage in America.
The dark secret of homosexual society -- the one that dares not speak its name -- is how many homosexuals first entered into that world through a disturbing seduction or rape or molestation or abuse, and how many of them yearn to get out of the homosexual community and live normally.
As a woman who comes from a broken home,
FUCK YOU.
As a woman who has made the decision to never have children,
FUCK YOU.
As a woman who has been through a marriage which fell apart,
FUCK YOU.
As a supporter of GLBT rights,
FUCK YOU.
If I were one of your 'homosexual friends', Mister Card, I would kick you in the goddamn teeth for even attempting to use the word 'tolerant' in a sentence referring to yourself. You are poison, wrapped up in a big old shit-eating grin. The pursuit of happiness is not an exclusive concept.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness
You disgust me.
And you hold the exact same, twisted mentality which is swiftly causing this country to go to hell in a handbasket.

I hated you back in 1997, when I first picked up 'Ender's Game', read twenty pages of it, then literally drop kicked it across the office of the bookstore I was working in at the time. Date: 2004-03-06 10:56 am (UTC)All the propaganda in the world isn't going to turn *me* gay. I like girls. A *lot*. *Really* a lot. But it's not a patch on just how much I liked girls when I was a so-called "vulnerable" teenager.
His comments on how men generally preferring the company of men, and women preferring the company of women and how it's a struggle to overcome those in order to have a relationship, and how praiseworthy it is for a homosexual to marry a member of the opposite sex really make me wonder if he might not be a little "confused" himself.
