I remember buying a box dye that was for a medium chestnut -my hair came out eggplant....some asshole had switched the dye colors.....bastard -now I always check the bottle in the box -on a side note though a really good dyd brand is the new Garnier 100% dye -that stuff totally rocks!!!

Did you go over black with it? Someone once told me the reason box dyes never look like they should on me is they are competing with "all the other crap" that's in my hair and has been for years.

But then again, I have never been a fan of Feria, the king of hair damage.

I removed the black from my hair before putting the other dye over it. And it technically wasn't a box dye, I bought all the components at a beauty supply store (does that still make for a box dye? I dunno.)

Ugh, a few months ago I had a similar experience. I can't locate the brand info online (and I forget off the top of my head), but the name was some "reddish blonde" type and the color on the box was this intensely vivid orange-type RED. I dyed my recently bleached (It wasn't pure blonde, but it was very light) hair with it, and it turned my hair this deep, browny, cherry type red. Emphasis on brown, totally not on red. It wasn't even switched out like the other poster's experience (I always check out of pure paranoia)... that's just what that color did. Pigfuckers.
