You don't have to read the post the comments are on, as it's not entirely relevant, just the commentary included at the bottom.

----

The funny thing is, for ages I balked at the notion of being lumped in with the pagans. I used to get quite angry if someone referred to me as such. However, over time, I grew more at ease with myself and my spiritual practices and while I didn't wholly embrace the label with starry eyes and open arms, I did kind of accept it in a grudging manner.

After all, one can only hear about pagan festivals featuring Vodou seminars and see pagan groups welcoming practioners of Vodou so many times before one just lies down and takes it.

Now I'm being told that I am, in fact, not a pagan?
Oh, the humanity. This is so very typical of my "luck".

*snrk*

Also of note, I don't recall ever hearing the term "the Vodoun" used to mean practioners of Vodou. Vodoun is just another spelling for Vodou, to my knowledge (okay, not entirely true. It's usually used for the West Africian Dahomean kind). It's always been vodouisant or practioner. This must be researched.

Preferably when it's not so late.
And not when I have itchy allergy eyes.

I was under the assumption that pagan was another word for hick that became popularised by religouse campaigns as they swept thru more populated places."you dont want to be a pagan" the smart people believe in jesus or whatever. just a complete side thaught on the whole look at me im so spooky and need a solid catagory of my spookyness

The definition of the word 'pagan' has been hotly debated for so long, that I don't think it even has a definition anymore.

Also, I believe that I need to get a definite category for my spookiness. Especially since I was just robbed of one. ;)

hehe i wasent commenting on you catagorising your spookyness,i know you know exactly where your spookyness lies,,,i was referring to the other afformentioned people trying to figure out the technical answer to where voodoo and all the rest of the sincretanised ivory coast religions fit in."personally speaking trying to pinpoint a definate answer in voodoo is like talking to a chef who has never owned a cookbook"
i dont have much by the way of faith these days,im pretty much a superstitouse agnostic but religion is way more art than science
p:s you could just use the catagory of...non hippy tree huggin majick or cooler than buckland, or paganism with out the gay. i guess i just cant help poke fun at religion, even tho i know its not right to do

Some of the people on the nonfluffypagan LJ make my butt twitch. I think the person who posted about "The Vodoun" is some geeky little wretch who has nothing better to do than sit at home and piddle about on the computer all day, reading his/her vast collection of Pagan (yes Pagan) books and handing down pearls of wisdom. Think of yourself as whatever seems appropriate, but you are right, a number of east coast Pagan events have included vodou, and members of the community. We don't need no stinkin' labels! Fucking Pagans....Oy!
