I'm lucky in that my hair will take anything I can dish out.
You've got the added benefit of having short hair. Shorter hair is infinitely easier to torture because it's mostly new growth. sinisher and I both have long (although from what she just said, I'm wondering how much of hers is actually left).
Despite all of this, my hair is fairly hardcore. I've dished out so much crap and it just takes it. Probably from years of being tormented into submission.
Yes, it is now very very short and the color of the inside of a ripe pomegranite (bloody purplish).
I tried getting the black out in careful steps, but it just got worse and worse and worse to the point of no return. I have fine, pseudo-wavyish, irish hair, that is naturally ash blonde though, so I suspect that the years and years of black dye decided that if it was going to leave, it was taking my hair with it ;)
It hasn't been black for a couple of months, I started dying it red again a few months ago. I used some kind of permanant dye remover to get rid of the blue-black (which actually worked semi-decently).
Up until tonight, I had just been using blonde hair dye to redo my new growth. The rest of my hair was a dim orange. But, tonight I decided to step it up and bleach the whole thing.
I haven't done something like this in ten years or so. I've got red to put over top of it, but now it's getting kind of late to embark on that.
I'm not sure I want to go to work tomorrow with what's on my head right now...
How did you do it? I tried again last night, but realized there is no way years of dye will come out with mere mortal-made bleach... I always get this pinkish sort of hair that says "you have had red and/or purple hair for about ten years, with sporadic bouts of blue or black. You can NOT be blonde." So how did you, queen of Feria black, of all things, pull it off?
Happy New Year, Lady T. 2005 will be better for all of us. <3, Ja Pix. [Because we don't NEED no Ja Rule on New Year's Eve.]
When I got rid of the black originally a few months ago, to go red, I used this permanant colour remover stuff. Which is apparently only good for...wait for it...permanant hair dye. It doesn't work with vegetable dyes.
It got the black down to a dull orange, which was suitable for doing bright red over.
Since then, I've been using blonde hair dye to redo my new growth. And last night, I had enough of the whole thing and wanted to go even brighter, so I bought some Quick Blue and 40 creme developer.
It's more of a golden yellow then a true blonde. And I'm kind of calico because I ran out of bleach before I could get to all of my underneath new growth. But, it's very very light and without much damage to my hair.
Tonight, I'm going to get more bleach to do the spots I couldn't do last night. And then I'm going to use a mixture of Special Effects Nuclear Red and Manic Panic Pillarbox Red.

Date: 2004-12-29 08:07 pm (UTC)I tried to unblack and ended up frying the fuck out of my hair to the point of chopping most of it off.
Kudos to you for your hair torturing skills.
