two for mirth

I was getting in my car at the drug store when I heard a rough cawing directly above me. When I looked up, I saw this handsome devil sitting on the lightpost right in front of my car. He ticked his head back and forth at me, making soft brrrrup! noises and ruffling his feathers.



Moments later, he was joined by a second. The both of them peered down at me with their wee black button eyes, tock-tock-tock in response to my quiet words with them. The one on the left leaned almost completely over the light he was sitting on when I started to mimic their crow-sounds back at them. He turned his head from side to side and emitted inquisitive noises. We stayed like that, having a strange conversation, for about ten minutes. Then a loud truck pulled up and scared them away into the sky.
