I've finally decided to join the technological age and buy myself an iPod. Three cheers for me, right?

Wrong. Uploading all of my cds onto iTunes is probably the most annoying thing I've ever had to do. Currently, I have 1155 songs (roughly 4.22 gb) done so far and I'm only in the C section of my cd binder. I've gotten the cds from the Engineer that I wanted to steal and the small handful I kept at work, but Christ. Only the Cs? I'm doomed.

Although right now, I'm in my rather large section for the Cranes, who I haven't listened to in ages. They make me quite happy.

The iPod itself is pretty spiffy. I bought a 30gb one, black, and because I'm a complete and total tool, I opted for the free engraving. Mine says: sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc. hee.

Another half an hour and I'm done for the night. I won't be making incredibly progress in that time, but maybe I'll get through my Cranes discs.

Happy belated birthday!

I held off from getting an iPod for a while now, but the lure of having every single one of my cds available for listening at all times was just too tempting to resist.

i have resisted the lure of the ipod for YEARS. i had a crappy mp3 player and this ipod makes it look like a pile of puke.

i'm even addicted to the brick game. i play solitaire on the subway. i can listen to every pink floyd song ever recorded. I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT.

I see a lot of writing and surfing in your future. It is the best way to past the time as one cd moves from the 'to be loaded' pile to the other pile.

I've tried other solutions like the Sandisk Sansa; stuff that I think works better with Windows than MacOS generally but seems to work on the principle of "You put your music on it, and I'll sort it into folders, don't you worry".

Upon which, it makes a bloody mess of it, and I can't find my music.

It took me days - literally - to drop my CD collection into iTunes when I got my Mac - over 500 CDs, and now... I have 44GB of music, and only a tiny portion of that is from any dodgy sources. The only "mistake" I made was to rip to AAC instead of higher-bitrate MP3s - nothing wrong with AAC as such, but I got an MP3 CD player for my car and had to transcode those tracks (with resultant loss of quality) to have them on MP3 CDs.

Anyway; the iPod absolutely kicks other device's arses for sheer "organised music" sense. I can always find the tracks I want, largely due to iTunes' efforts in putting things in the right place. That, and you can share the music library to other networked machines pretty easily.

Now you're using iTunes, they do a free Song of the Week (I think iTunes US does more that one), and sometimes they're worth checking out.
