Heating my apartment.

In short: it's fucking sucked.

For some reason, the heat has not been working all that well. It's never been fantastic because we have drafty windows and I hate putting up plastic sheeting, but it's been do-able. This winter, however, has gone down the shitter.

The first time I called maintenance resulted in being told our heater vents were dirty and needed to be cleaned. He cleaned out the ones which didn't involve moving furniture, I did the rest. It resulted in slighter better heat, but when you're moving one notch up from practically no heat at all, it's not a world of a difference.

This weekend, the heat went completely out. The Engineer bought me a space heater and long story short, I blew a breaker with it. So, part of Sunday night was spent sitting in the cold and dark, as opposed to just the cold.
Heat's been better so far this week, but still not like it used to be and I'm still loathe to put plastic in the windows because it reminds me of my incredibly trashy childhood.

the Mini Cooper.

I brought her home on the 17th and omgjesuschristthisisthebestthingi'veverdoneever.

HEATED SEATS, YA'LL. HEATED FUCKING SEATS.

She drives like a dream. Pictures will be forthcoming once I can keep her clean long enough to take some proper ones. Winter in NJ /= clean car.

Repo, a Genetic Opera.

Can I say how frigging disappointed I was in this?

Like, seriously.

I have been waiting for this film for so long and refusing to watch any trailers for it, so it wouldn't be spoiled for me. How can you go wrong with Anthony Stewart Head and Ogre from Skinny Puppy and Bill Mosely? In a musical? Dude, sign me UP. I was so hyped for this, it wasn't even funny.

Mister Kyle brought it over on Friday for us to watch and it was terrible. The songs sucked, the music was generic rock, the acting was sub-par, and whoever wrote it needs to go back to script-writing class. Particularly, script-writing-for-musicals class. By the end of it, I wanted every single character to meet a messy and terrible end, just so they would shut the fuck up. The only thing it had going for it was the fact it was pretty to look at. Shit, Rocky Horror Picture Show was a better musical then this and I believe that's one movie that needs to be taken out back behind the shed and fucking shot.

This is not going to be a popular opinion, I recognize that.

Aristotle.

He finally had a good shed, last week. All in one piece and the old bits came off with it!

However, he lost a couple points this evening by striking at the wall of his tank instead of the goddamn mouse sitting in the tank.

I'm glad someone does. My friend who brought it over was seriously baffled at how much I hated it. And I'm kind of afraid of the reactions of other friends who I know were just as psyched about it as I was.

there were points during the screenplay where i was finishing lines outloud before they were finished, because they were telegraphed a mile away.

the narrator, even though it was the dude who wrote it, was completely shoehorned in as a character.

the sing-songy nature of half the script, like whenever paul sorvino opened his mouth, was incredibly grating.

&, i can't believe i'm trying to introduce logic into the script, but the complete reversal of the audience reaction toward the end was bizarre?

&, y'know. as much as i hated myself for watching a movie with paris hilton in it, given the character she plays, it was just one more indication of how self-aware the production was, & what they were aiming for. at least with rocky horror, there hadn't really been a precedent set, so at least there, it seemed kind of earnest & heartfelt in its attempt, & just happened to fail so horribly as to be fun.

the sing-songy nature of half the script

This was one of my biggest problems with it. What musical has parts in it where only one line is sung in a conversation?

Also, for further hilarity- I checked out a couple of comms dedicated to the movie, to see what they were saying about it, and I found mostly icon-making and fanfic. However, one of them had an entry asking, "Was anyone else disappointed it didn't get any Oscar nominations?" And my jaw dropped wide open.

Did this person watch a different movie? I mean, one of my absolute favorite movies is the original Day of the Dead, but I don't delude myself into thinking it was Oscar-material. That's just ridiculous.

ha!

even if! it happened to get nominated for anything, maybe art direction, but even then - i keep hearing "steampunk this, steampunk that" - sure, it was hyperstylized, but it wasn't anything all that great. dark city or the cell had better visuals a decade ago.

yeah, the one line singing...i kept waiting for it to be followed up with a song. a lot of times, it was just "random guitar plucking" in the background.

& the skin mask stretched over the face was done much better in the movie poster for the last Saw movie...or, if we're talking plastic surgery, that classic scene from Brazil.

ah, well. to cleanse my brain, i think i'll go watch Freddy Got Fingered.

Repo Man - Boo. I KIND of wanted to see it...but only kind of. Maybe I won't waste that hour or two of life now.

She's not referring to 'Repo Man', which is an awesome movie from the mid-80s, but to 'Repo! the Genetic Opera', which just came out on DVD last week.

I actually drove by your office (getting gas @ BP tonight) and I saw your lovely baby.. Very nice.. Bt the real question is will it fit a fuckton of light up virgin marys?

I wasn't as disappointed with repo but that was because I didn't have high expectations for it. I knew what I was getting off the bat. I love it for it's utter cheese. I doubt it will win any awards (maybe a razzie??). Taking that into consideration.. I live through the Rocky Horror thing.. I don't need to relive it by dressing up and going to a theatre.. but I didn't want to vomit watching it either..:)
