When one wishes to communicate that they are hestitating over something because of being unsure of it or afraid of it, the word that one uses is 'leary'. Not 'weary'.

ENGLISH, MOTHERFUCKER. DO YOU SPEAK IT?!

argh.
hatehatehate

Also, while I'm on the subject. When an animal is flighty and shy and startles at small sounds, it is 'SKITTISH' not 'SKIDDISH'.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!

I hate the internet.

It's spelled both ways, actually. Though 'leary' is the archaic spelling.

As for everything else you said, that is all well and good. However, language being fluid should not also include taking a word like 'weary' and giving it a definition completely different.

Spelling and pronounciation are one thing. New definitions are entirely different.

I'm willing to bet the weary thing was a typo. That pesky "E" key is smack dab in the middle of two of the letters. I'm anal about spelling for the most part but it has happened to me in the past since I do use the word wary quite often.

Strange, I can't find any definitions for "leary" can you send a link? Merriam Webster ain't got crap. Okay, they did mention Thrice Great Hermes and Thoth but that's about it.

The people in question have used it consistently.

No link, sorry.
It was a paper dictionary.

Oh well. So much for making excuses for that person. Da hell with them. He or she should check their spelling before clicking send anyway.

No biggie on the definition. I think you've got Denis or Timothy Leary on the brain and are just making words up. Hee.

i've also always spelled it leary,
never thought of doing "leery"
because i thought that was a mis-used tense of "leer"
which we know has no link to leary.

Main Entry: leary
variant of leery

and this is interesting. looks like it could be a neat site:

Weird. Merriam Webster's online dictionary is where I checked in the first place. Oh well.
