Why yes, Ms. Maguire. Your mother is undoubtedly eligible for Medicaid. However, once she starts to receive it, we're going to want that Social Security Disability benefit she receives every month.

Yes, all of it.

Well. Except for thirty five dollars. You can keep that for 'personal expenses'.

I only wish I was joking.

Dear God,
hope you got the letter
and I pray you can make
it better down here.

And if you're up there, you perceive
That my heart's here upon my sleeve.
If there's one thing I don't believe in...

That brought it home.

As hard as this is, it's not faith...it's the bleeding system. When Ellis' mother was in the nursing home, the nursing home made sure she got Medicaid, she already got Medicare and regular Social Security. Every month her Social Security check went to the nursing home, in addition to the Medicaid and Medicare payments. I'll be willing to bet that's where your mom's SSD check will go...to the nursing home. So, the options are no Medicaid and you private pay the nursing home, which will be more than $1,000 per month; you get the Medicaid and lose her $1,000/month; or you try to bring her home somehow, but that won't work, unless you can find Hospice that works for free (do they do that for free or does insurance [again] pay for that?). Limited, frustrating, angering and hurtful....it sucks! But again, try hard not to lose your faith in battling the system....

Yeah, her check will be going to Medicaid.

And the cost of hospice isn't what's stopping me from bringing her home, insurance will easily cover that. I won't bring her home because I can't get her twenty-four hour care at the apartment.

As for losing faith, it's not so much because of I'm battling the system. It's just...everything. It's all beginning to be too much for me.

Sweetie, I know you're tired, and I know it's beginning to be too much for you, and I wish I could make it all go away or get someone to do this stuff for you. But you and I both know you're the only one who's responsible enough to take care of it all and make sure it gets done....and that sucks. I know this won't help much, but I love you and I'm here for you....
